I don't think this is a good idea. Having a newsgroup will lead to a
much wider range of junk.
Amoung them:
- crossposted holy wars
- advertising
- people just looking for trouble
Our alt-newsgroup is not subject to most of this because little alt
groups aren't recognized by most people.
These problems are especially large in an environment where the
newsgroup is gated to a mail list. You can cancel obvious junk
(advertising, spawm) in a newsgroup, but once it passed the
news-2-mail gateway, you can't anymore.
I vote not to change the current setup. I just shut down my whole
newsfeed because it got untolerable. You idea of a comp.-group will
raise noise in this maillist. Just look what the dylan list became
after it's coupling with a comp.-group.
