I'm able to compile and install orion, and I've edited my .xsession file to start it up. When I start X using this .xsession file, I (eventually) see a title bar that says "" at the top of the screen. None of the default keys (or indeed, any keys) seem to produce any effect whatsoever - I can't start a program or add workspaces or in any way get Orion to acknowledge my existence. :) Has anyone else encountered this sort of problem, or is there some sort of obvious error that I'm making? Seems like the focus is in the wrong/no window (that was a big mess all the time). You could try to start an initial application from within the .xsession file just before you start Orion (e.g. "xterm &")... maybe that helps Orion to get into the right state again. > Thanks very much, > James Sorry for the late reply. -- David From scsh-users-request@scsh.net Mon Jul 16 22:02:25 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: scsh@informatik.uni-tuebingen.de Delivered-To: scsh@informatik.uni-tuebingen.de Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mx4.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id 09732349A; Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:02:24 +0200 (MEST) Received: from mx4.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (mx4.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id vG++u8134nu2; Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:02:22 +0200 (MEST) Received: from www.scsh.net (bernard.Informatik.Uni-Tuebingen.De [134.2.12.122]) by mx4.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id 84F523475; Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:02:21 +0200 (MEST) Received: by www.scsh.net (Postfix, from userid 3123) id 3B9255EDA; Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:02:21 +0200 (MST) Old-Return-Path: X-Original-To: scsh-users@scsh.net Delivered-To: scsh-users@scsh.net DKIM-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:cc:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=LP0YAiL1gGPT1jtkBP7Bc0p9WK0TroKmI5hLF+0TxtseZdJ1qOn3g+fW+OtjQaEE3gFfTrThxGJJincsSyJknY14cGd3u95QMxdClT9h2T1r/1HEBN2KoIj0SXGB6tBuaAKpNz5YQddi9JnVvIMDgiey958eDtdYmUQWFmo+MB8= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:cc:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=iqGBDh5NA+b2U6yPSDwke6vnLErDjByrowY22JOWf37tJ00TW7YeWEw5+/IKqYg81y7aMYcGa0aIyHRTCw+nQPQ2ZB6mK4pZyArFiMbZxy2n8jKTQyPgKfMIleEOoNvbJ8X5qgaRQHr9pwScce/OohALKn1l8FDq39MkWD95Zx0= Message-ID: <5bd1017b0707161232g14e20fe1x123c4629da3d3011@mail.gmail.com> Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2007 12:32:59 -0700 From: "James Wright" To: "David Frese" Subject: Re: Orion doesn't respond to keyboard after startup Cc: scsh-users@scsh.net In-Reply-To: <1184613547.5794.10.camel@df-2> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline References: <5bd1017b0707031615v6824aee6udbe4931408587978@mail.gmail.com> <1184613547.5794.10.camel@df-2> Resent-Message-ID: Resent-From: scsh-users@scsh.net X-Mailing-List: archive/latest/392 X-Loop: scsh-users@scsh.net List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Precedence: list Resent-Sender: scsh-users-request@scsh.net List-Id: List-Archive: Resent-Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:02:21 +0200 (MST) Hi David, > Seems like the focus is in the wrong/no window (that was a big mess all > the time). Thanks for the reply! I tried starting an xterm from the .xsession file, but it never seemed to receive the focus (at any rate, I couldn't type into it and the cursor stayed hollow). I think that focus issue may be a result of my X setup more than an orion issue, though (I have encountered the same "xterm won't focus" behaviour when trying other window managers). I did manage to figure out my problem (where none of orion's keys seemed to work) a little while ago: The culprit was Num Lock. Orion seems to treat M-c or F12 as a different key when Num Lock is on than when it's off. (Presumably because all keys arrive with an extra modifier when num lock is on). That seems like a bug to me, although I have to admit I can't see an easy way to fix it given that Num Lock could in theory be on any modifier. And of course the work-around (just turn off Num Lock) is pretty trivial. > Sorry for the late reply. Not at all! I'm sorry I didn't forward the solution to the mailing list earlier. Thanks!
